Obama Administration Caught Red Handed

Dirty Wars (Hardcover)

It should come as no surprise that the American government, currently headed by the Obama Administration, has major skeltons in its closet. A new book by Jeremy Scahill entitled "Dirty Wars: The World Is  A Battlefield", addresses one such skeleton - the 2011 assassination of two U.S. citizens, Anwar al-Awlaki and his 16 year old son Abdulrahman in Yemen (along with other reportings of U.S. secret operations in Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan).

Janelle Monae & Erykah Badu - Q.U.E.E.N.

Janelle Monae, Q.U.E.E.N.
Atlantic Records

Summer always seems to bring great singles from great artists. When spring hits, our favorite artists tend to release a song (or 2 or 3) that will hold us down through the approaching top down, ride around town kind of weather that many of us crave all winter long. And when those songs hit, we know immediately if it's hot....or not. So when we heard that Janelle Monae and the Empress Erykah Badu were collaborating on a song appropriately entitled Q.U.E.E.N., we knew the product had to be hit.

And it is.

Check out the song below. And listen for the rhymes Janelle spits at the end. Incrediable. We love it!

The Dogg Turned Lion - Snoop Lion Releases 'Reincarnated'

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images

The artist formally known as Snoop Dogg has finally released his much anticipated (we guess...) reggae album, Reincarnated, under his new moniker, Snoop Lion. Don't ask our opinion of the album because as of right now, we don't have one. Maybe later, but not right now... (Still scratching our heads over this new transformation)

Check out the full album stream below.

New Music Alert! - Richard Raw's "The Proletariat"

A Revolutionary’s Theme Music

April 23, 2013 – Lyrical wordsmith Richard Raw drops his new EP The Proletariat  on May 1, 2013 Combining cultural knowledge with revolutionary prose over banging beats, The Proletariat is an effortless crossover project that both popular and conscious hip-hop fans will enjoy.

The Proletariat is the soundtrack to the struggle of liberation,” says Richard Raw. “It is a revolutionary’s theme music. I keep it conscious, but remain on a level that popular rap fans can relate to.”

Following in the footsteps of hip-hop legends Nas and Common, Richard Raw has mastered conscious hip-hop expression without losing his fan base in the popular hip-hop realm.

“It’s important for me to speak to revolution and the struggle of my people without losing the fans who like their hip-hop to be beats and basic rhymes. I had to find that balance.”

When creating the EP, Richard Raw channeled the energy of the times; youth fighting against government power, unjust racism gaining global media coverage and social change becoming a reality. He also tuned into the slow but steady shift of hip-hop from anemic lyrical content to thoughtful verse and thought it was time to unite the changing social stratum with the maturing genre of hip-hop. What was born from this unity was The Proletariat, a ten-song project that promises to ignite your revolutionary spirit and keep you rockin’ through the summer.

Includes the summer anthem "True Leaders"!

Available May 1st on iTunes and at Amazon.com

Lauryn Hill Faces Jail Time (Say it aint so!!!)

Lauryn Hill Preforming - H 2012
Hollywoodreporter.com

The time that all Lauryn Hill stans have dreded will soon come. The Grammy award winning songstress/rapper is facing jail time for tax evasion. Ms. Hill pleaded guilty to ditching her tax duties from 2005-2007 and now the federal governement wants their money. There is somewhat of a debate as to how much Ms. Hill actually owes to the IRS. Some say over 1 million. Some say under 1 million. Eitherway, it's a lot of money and if not paid, Ms. Hill faces 24-36 months in prison. According to her attorney, it is expected that Ms. Hill will have the full balance  paid by the 6th and will not serve any jail time.

Ms. Hill's music career was on fire in the late 90s but it has been quite some time since she has produced a true hit. However, recent reports state that Ms. Hill signed a multi-million dollar recording contract with Sony Music so maybe, just maybe, this will mean more hits (a.k.a. more money)  for the rapptress in the future.

Only time will tell what will become of this and we do hope Lauryn Hill passes this bump in the road without ever seeing the inside of a jail cell.

.......On another note, where is Lauryn's daughter Selah?

Selah and father Rohan Marley (Photo: Twitter)

Hopefully, once Selah completes school, she will decide to bless the world with her talent and beauty. As granddaughter of the great Bob Marley and daughter of one of the hottest (female) mcees to ever touch a microphone, Selah is sure to have superstar power. I guess we just have to wait and see what will happen.....

CNN recently made a huge mistake by reporting that a "dark skin" bomber suspsect was taken into custody after the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon. How interesting now that we know what the bombers REALLY look like.
